Flooring Calculator

Measure the room length × width for square footage, add 10% for waste, then divide by the coverage printed on each box. A 200 ft² room needs about 220 ft² of flooring.

Add 10% for straight-lay planks in a simple rectangular room, and 15% for diagonal patterns, angled rooms, or long boards that produce more offcuts.

Multiply length by width for each room and add them together; break L-shaped rooms into rectangles and sum those. Include closets you are flooring through. Then add 10% for waste — more like 15% for a diagonal or herringbone layout, which produces far more offcuts.

Divide the box price by the square feet the box covers — coverage is printed on the carton and varies by product, often around 20 ft². Compare that figure, not the box price. Then add underlayment, transitions and trim, which typically run another 15–25% of the material cost.
